To help students and trainers to understand the significance of benthic ecosystems for the health of the total marine ecosystem, and the possible problems that the climate change shall cause in these fragile ecosystems through the increase of seawater temperature, the acidification and the sea level rise.
Also to show them the criteria and methodologies for the scientific study and monitoring of marine sediments and benthic ecosystems.
