The introduction focuses on water needs and importance for plant growth. The physical concepts governing water transfer in the ‘’Soil – plant – Atmosphere’’ Continum system are developed in the second chapter. The concepts of: soil moisture holding capacity, water infiltration and redistribution in the soil profile, are detailed. The methods used for stored soil water amounts computing and soil moisture evolution are developed in the third chapter. The fourth chapter focuses on the different methods used for water management at the plot scale. The strategies and tools used for irrigation performance (emission uniformity, water use efficiency, water productivity) control are developed. The last chapter is dedicated to the strategies and techniques used to improve water use efficiency against climate Change (deficit irrigation, water supplies’ partition, ).

Field trials where soil moisture detectors are to be set up and used to measure the stored water amounts (before and after irrigation (on an irrigated plot of the INGC) are planned.
